Miss Meatface: When Anxiety Is Covered in Latex
Photographer, San Francisco, London

We all remember Desperate Housewives – stereotypical notions of bored and depressed woman staying at home. Take that, but blend it with your darkest fetishes and you might come up with something in the direction of Kat Toronto’s work. Actually rather the work of Miss Meatface, Toronto’s alter ego. The dark one, confident one – the character that makes Toronto feeling much better about herself, covering personal tragedies in latex couture. Her work is colourful yet disturbing and latest since her appearance in the Italian Vogue a few weeks back, her works have gone all over the place. The now London-based photographer also masters to capture the anxiety of what it means to be a woman and challenges gender projections as well as sexual taboos by proving that all of those phantasies can become reality. It`s up to you.

In the art world currently I find most exciting that…

Women are in the forefront and leading the way!

Number of unanswered mails in your account…
Perhaps one or two, I try to stay on top of emails and messages as much as I can.

My perfect working outfit…
My perfect working outfit is comprised of latex, extremely high heels, Mac ‘Lady Danger’ lipstick, a pair of Wolford Neon 40’s and pearls.

My favourite new brand discovery…

Well, if we are talking about beautiful, awe-inspiring clothing and textile designs I’ve recently fallen head over heels in love with Richard Quinn (@richardquinn1 on Instagram). His designs are absolute Meatface dream pieces! I’ve also got a recent jewelry crush: Cruel Love Designs (@cruellovesd on Instagram). She uses fabulous vintage materials to create retro-fetish inspired one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

My everyday online art read is…
BULLETT Magazine and Vice’s Creators Project.

My necessary extravagance is…

I must have Wolford Neon 40’s!

Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever bought…
I always feel utterly ridiculous when I go to the store and buy copious amounts of cheap sausages for photo shoots.
My ultimate secret after long working hours…
Relaxing in a scalding hot bubble bath to the point of almost passing out.
KAT_TORONTO_theartgorgeous09Favourite collaboration of the art- and fashion world
I will forever be in love with Salvador Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli’s surrealist collaborations.
My favourite hashtag…
#meatinspiration, used to denote things that are inspirations to my Meatface series.

On my office table I always have…

A massive pile of notebooks filled to the brim with notes, magazine clippings and various other paper ephemera…and a selection of my favourite writing pens.

The most arty city is…

London of course!

Who are the best dressed in the art world…
Hands down the fabulous Pandemonia.

Describe yourself with three emojis…
❤️??

Art world gent I would love to have lunch with…
Unfortunately, this fellow is dead now but I would’ve loved to have lunch with the erotic surrealist photographer Pierre Molinier.
Artist(s) we should have on our watch list is/are…
.I have three on the very top of my list: the stitch stress extraordinaire and ‘Enfant Terrible of British textile arts’ Jess de Wahls (@jessdewahls on Instagram); Karina Akopyan, with her scintillating explorations into Russian folk art and fetishism (@karinaakopyan_ on Instagram); and the dark, alien dreamscapes of photographer Teri Varhol (@terivarhol on Instagram).
