The new and noteworthy Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is like the Oscars in a museum box.
Opening in Los Angeles early next year, the immersive museum will look behind the scenes at how movies were made over the past 100 years, from Metropolis to Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
They also have a ton of iconic artefacts, like the red slippers worn by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz from 1939, to creatures from H.R. Giger’s Alien from 1979.
Even better: The museum has 12 million photographs, 80,000 screenplays, 61,000 movie posters, 20,000 production and costume design drawings, and 104,000 pieces of production art. It’s worth joining their mailing list and waiting for the grand unveiling.
