British architect Thomas Heatherwick just unveiled his latest masterpiece, the Vessel, a 150 foot tall rose gold structure with 2,500 steps, which looks like either a shawarma or an M.C. Escher drawing in 3D form.
It’s part of the new Hudson Yards complex, which boasts a shopping mall (with Nieman Marcus and tons of brands), a luxury apartment building, a performing arts center called the Shed and this public art masterpiece, which is all about the view of the Hudson River.
It’s made from a steel frame covered by a polished copper-colored steel. According to the architect, it was designed “to lift the public up and offer a mile’s worth of pathways,” in other words, we don’t walk enough.
