Oprah Winfrey is more than just a media mogul, TV host and film star, she is now the subject of her own retrospective at The National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, which opened Friday.
The sprawling exhibition “Watching Oprah” walks us through the best moments of TV history with clips from her 35+ year career spanning 35,000 TV interviews. This exhibition begins with her roots in Mississippi to her life in Chicago and includes dresses, photos of Oprah on her first day of school in 1955, her student ID card from 1967, her Emmy awards, and her personal journals, letters from Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou.
“This show allows people to realize the power they have to change their lives,” Winfrey said of her show.
