Lady Gaga is no doubt the art star of the pop music world, most notably with her album “Art Pop” (with a commission from Jeff Koons). Now, she is known as the artist who won a lawsuit against ORLAN, the French performance artist known for her plastic surgery performance art from the 1980s, sued Gaga in 2016.
Apparently, Gaga plagiarized ORLAN’s artwork for her “Born this Way” music video in 2013, which copied the alien-like prosthetics in two her artworks, Bumpload and Woman with Head. Instead of getting $31.7m, ORLAN has to pay Gaga’s legal costs, which are an upward of $18,000. So much for justice, but we’ll see what’s next.
