While the royal family aren’t exactly known for a cutting-edge contemporary art collection, that soon could change. Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently wed, their art collection has been growing.
In fact, it has been ever since Markle has been acting, but that’s another story.
The Duchess of Sussex may have great style, but what about her art collection? The former fashion blogger is a huge fan of New York artist Inslee Fariss, who is also a fashion illustrator. Markle’s favorite piece is a nude figure study she bought a few years ago, which looks like a Chinese brush-inspired watercolor. The piece was bought before she started dating Harry, but apparently it’s on display in her guest bedroom.
“Isn’t it funny how life turns out?” asks the artist.
We’ve also seen Meghan and Harry visit an art gallery recently, the Nottingham Contemporary, a rather edgy institution showing cutting-edge work by young artists. She also recently stepped out for her first-ever solo engagement to attend an opening at the Royal Academy of the Arts art gallery. Hello, are we seeing a theme here, or what?
The RCA’s Oceania exhibit puts art from Australia, New Zealand and other countries in the region on view and Markle got a private tour.
Cheese spoiler: Art played a role in the courtship of this royal couple.
Harry bought Meghan an artwork by one of his favorite artists back in 2016, during courtship. At London’s Walton Fine Arts Gallery, Harry bought an artwork by an artist named Van Donna called: “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love.” The artwork, which look sa bit like a graffiti Hallmark card, says that exactly, with a stencil of a boy and girl walking hand in hand.
