It was an eventful week last week as the art world received a few surprises such as Andrea Rosen closing its doors and Paul Schimmel dropping out of leading gallery Hauser & Wirth (even Beyoncé pulled out of Coachella but that’s another issue). Last Friday, we learned the devastating news about a Chinese photographer and to top it all off, Meryl Streep and Karl Lagerfeld are in a quarrel over…a dress.

#1 Chinese photographer Ren Hang Passes Away

The talented and controversial Chinese artist Ren Hang died last week in Berlin at the young age of 29. His passing certainly shocked fans, yet family and friends reported the photographer was battling with depression.

#2 Marc Jacobs Beauty teams up with female artist on new collection

British illustration and designer Julie Verhoeven has collaborated with Marc Jacobs Beauty on two new collections including the ‘Enamoured With a Twist Lip’ set and ‘Velvet Reality Eye’ set. The quirky and arty-looking bag sets will get you ready for Spring!
 
#3 Grand lightening bolt to be built in London

In honour of David Bowie, a new crowdsourcing campaign has been launched to build a 3-story-tall red and blue lightening bolt, just outside Brixton tube station. The campaign is hoping to raise £990,000 to cover material and construction costs.
 
#4 Petra Collins becomes a director for new short film

Photographer Petra Collins has recently released a new short film for luxury label Gucci, aiming to highlight the brand’s eyewear collection. The whimsical short film draws from the artist’s own childhood as well as her Hungarian heritage. You can catch the feature here.

#5 A Biennal at Tiffany’s?
