From spotting a gap in the Scandinavian art scene to building an event that brings together top-tier galleries, collectors, and institutions, Julie has turned her bold vision into reality. As Enter Art Fair prepares for its highly anticipated 7th edition this year 28 – 31 August, we sat down with her to discuss the fair’s origins, the thrill of opening day, and what makes Enter Art Fair an unmissable event for galleries and art lovers alike.
Kindly share with us how you started your art career and Enter Art Fair?
It all started with a mix of ambition, stubbornness, and a love for the art world. I saw that Scandinavia needed an art fair that matched its creative energy – so in 2019, we just made it happen. Today, it’s six years later, we’re at the 7th edition, Enter Art Fair is Scandinavia’s largest international art fair, and we’re still growing. Our goal remains the same: to present a high-quality art fair that expands the reach of art while bringing the right people together and supporting galleries in placing artworks with the right collectors and institutions.
What’s your favourite moment in your art world year?
The day before Enter Art Fair opens – no contest! That’s when galleries from Seoul, Milan, Istanbul, London (and everywhere in between) arrive, and it’s like a giant art world reunion. The crates are unpacked, final touches are made, and the excitement is contagious. It’s pure energy.
Elevator pitch: Why should a gallery consider signing up for Enter Art Fair?
Because we get it. We know galleries are here for serious business – but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Enter is high quality, international, and a good time. We make sure the right collectors, institutions, and audiences show up, and we create a space where deals get done, connections are made, and the experience is actually enjoyable.
What can we expect from the upcoming fair edition?
Expect an elevated fair, an unforgettable mix of top-tier contemporary art and some exciting surprises. More amazing galleries, an international presence – and our sculpture garden is back. We introduced it last year, and it was such a hit that we’re making sure it stays a big part of the Enter experience.
Ever thought of leaving the art world, and what made you go on?
No chance. Once you’re in, you’re in – it’s addictive. And honestly, why would I want to leave? It’s the best world to be in! Art has this incredible way of connecting people, sparking ideas, and shaping culture.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t worry too much! Things have a way of falling into place when you trust your intuition, stay focused and surround yourself with the right people.
What’s essential to pack and plan for a fair trip to Copenhagen?
Swimwear. Seriously. Copenhagen is one of the only cities where you can take a dip right in the harbor after a long day at the fair. Also, comfy shoes – this city is made for walking (and biking). If you have time outside the fair, it’s worth planning ahead and making a list of galleries to visit- Copenhagen has an incredible contemporary art scene. And of course, book a great place to stay – Villa Copenhagen is a favorite, combining classic luxury with a relaxed, creative vibe that fits perfectly with an art-filled trip.
What 3 arty places should not be missed during a weekend trip to Copenhagen?
- Enter Art Fair. It’s the place to see the best contemporary art from around the world, all in one inspiring setting full of daylight.
- Louisiana Museum of Modern Art or Arken – both offer breathtaking exhibitions in stunning locations.
- Cisternerne – a truly unique art space inside an underground water reservoir. It’s an experience like no other, where art meets architecture in the most atmospheric way.
