This Pop Artist Makes the Simpsons Explode

Matt Gondek is not your average cartoon-driven artist. The artist was an illustrator who grew bored with the work.
At the age of 30, he wanted a new challenge, so started painting deconstructed comics, from Dragonball Z to Bugs Bunny. Of course, or favorites are his series of The Simpsons. Turning to KAWS and Roy Lichtenstein for inspiration, he plays with nostalgia to present something different.

“I think people just like to see things destroyed,” said Gondek.
“We love to watch the mighty fall. It’s why we have so many tabloid newspapers. My work uses very recognizable pop culture icons at the core–which provides the ‘mighty,’ and I provide the fall.”
