#1 Leonardo DiCaprio Adds News Ruscha Piece to His Art Collection
Heartthrob Leo DiCaprio snatched up a $125,000 Ed Ruscha print last weekend during a charity event in Beverly Hills. The actor happens to be a major collector of Ruscha’s work, yet his prized collection also includes pieces by Basquiat and Frank Stella.
#2 Moth Attack!
German museum Neue Galerie in Kassel recently reported that a Joseph Beuys artwork, “Das Rudel (The Pack) has been slightly damaged by moths. The insects have appeared to have devoured the holes of the felt suit – one of the components of this multiple-piece artwork. The installation is currently removed for special treatment.
#3 Karl Lagerfeld Partners With Famed Jeweller on Fashion Jewellery Line
Time to get excited, kids! Karl Lagerfeld is partnering with Austrian jewellery house Swarovski to create two collections of jewellery including necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. The line is expected to be launched this September.
#4 George Lucas Finds the Force in Los Angeles For New Museum
Star Wars creator, George Lucas finally decided on a city to build his $1 billion museum, The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art after months of careful consideration between San Francisco and Chicago. The filmmaker selected Los Angeles to be the home of his institution in the museum hub Exposition Park across the street from University of Southern California, where he formerly attended. Visitors can expect more than just Star Wars memorabilia. Exhibits will include pieces from Lucas’s other projects as well as his own art collection.
#5 Ralph Lauren Takes On Hospitality Business
Fashion label Ralph Lauren dips its toes in the hospitality business once again with a brand new concept. Get ready to sip your coffee in “Ralph’s Coffee & Bar” which will sit alongside the Polo European flagship on Regent Street in London. The new space opened last Thursday and is (of course) adorned with equestrian-themed artworks. Get your caffeine-fix or after work drinks at this new hangout!
#6 Alice+Olivia Team Up With Starbucks in Asia
Alice+Olivia fans, rejoice! The luxury fashion label has collaborated with Starbucks to create unique merchandise in China and Asia-Pacific for the second time. This limited collection includes double-walled mugs, stainless steel tumbler, a tote bag, and a Starbucks reward card all tagged with the brand’s iconic black and white palette, red lips, and “Stage Face” image.
