Sacha Baron Cohen Tried to Dupe This Art Advisor on TV

Christy Cones regrets nothing but her dress. The art advisor and consultant at Coast Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, was interviewed unknowingly by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for his pilot show on Showtime called “Who is America?” She had no idea she was duped by the comedian, who was dressed up like a fake interviewer and asked Cones if his artwork was worth anything – the comedian pretended to make cartoons from his own feces.
“The show had approached another gallery, and those people turned them away, and then they came to us. I Googled who [Baron Cohen’s production team] said they were in the emails and nothing really came up. Everybody told me, “You’re putting yourself at risk. This could all be a sham.” I was just like, “Oh well, let’s have fun.” It’s OK to satirize,” Cones told Slate.

The only thing she regrets is the dress she wore on TV. “I would have never worn that freakin’ Cavalli dress. I would’ve worn my Wolford dress if I’d known it was American. But that’s beside the point.”
