We can already smell Art Basel coming closer and are our agendas slowly but surely get filled: From charity dinners, cocktail receptions, private museum tours and a drink (or two) at Campari Bar.
The Hotel:
But no visit to Art Basel would be complete without stepping inside the city`s most prestigious place – Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois – the most star-studded place to stay (and eat). Last year it flooded Instagram with a small sculpture quietly installed in the lobby that was stealing away some of the attention from the multimillion-dollar offerings at the fairs: A kneeling Trump.
But time for some history: The Grand Hotel Trois Rois, also known as the Drei Könige, originated in 1681, was a stopover for merchants involved in trade business along the river. And during Art Basel times, things seem to still quite to be this way. Major sales of major works are often being made here – over a breakfast meeting or at night, at one of the “best Italian restaurant outside of Italy” – Chez Donati.
Chez Donati:
This place is where all the heavy-hitting blue-chip dealers can be spotted while agreeing on some deals over the best Italian dishes. One of the Mugrabis might just have the table next to you or you rub elbows with Larry while checking in.
Fleur des Rois:
Another beautiful new gem has recently been added to the hotel`s portfolio: the flower boutique Fleurs de Rois. Just in case you suddenly need a bunch of roses (hello, male readers!) or just a pretty little thank you for a client or your favourite gallerist, make sure to say hello here. This will definitely get you covered.
Make a Dip:
Last but not least, a little secret to share with you. But don`t blame us for what will happen there (or not): there is a mind-blowing Jacuzzi on the rooftop. Wouldn’t you be in town for serious business but for a honeymoon, this would be the ultimate setting for a night to remember…
Bon Voyage!
