Smashing the Patriarchy with Ice Cream and Roses
Feminist art has never looked tastier...
Fempire 22 Aug 2018

Artist, Berlin

Berlin based multidisciplinary artist Antique Delphine is aiming to break down social norms on female sexuality and identity. Having studied at Neue Schule Für Fotografie, she explores women’s issues and objectification of feminity with photography, film and installations.

Her work is fueled by the fatigue Delphine often feels from the ongoing objectification and censorship of feminity. She answers – sometimes humorous, sometimes serious – with graceful staged sets of the female body parts within aesthetic environments. From roses to ice cream, she brings a new perspective to feminity.

“Whatever struggles I’m currently experiencing whether they are personal or societal, they are what drives me to create imagery. So naturally as a woman, these usually have a feminist subject such as objectification or gender-based violence. I aim to promote femininity and female sexuality and to break down social norms on how women are expected to express themselves. The female body is still censored so much when it doesn’t directly serve the male gaze. A giant boob on my head is funny but it also expresses how empty objectification can make me feel.”

We love, how she smashes patriarchy – pink, bitter-sweet and with lots of ice cream.

Most ridiculous thing you ever bought…
These weird panties that were supposed to lift my butt, and all they did was make my butt cheeks look like pancakes. I shuddered in horror and threw them away. In retrospect I should have kept them as a beacon of hope that when faced with how far we sometimes let our insecurities take us, the silliness of it will bring us closer to ourselves again.

You first post on Instagram…
I don’t remember because I frequently delete posts. It was probably a picture of a tree because I’m obsessed with trees and before I made instagram all about my work it was all trees and selfies.
