Lehmann Maupin shows the Los Angeles photographer Alex Prager’s latest work in a solo show opening January 18. The pieces are staged to show Cindy Sherman-esque characters, which are mixed with a raw, Nan Goldin vibe and a Spencer Tunick grandiose. In one shot, “Face in the Crowd,” a lone heroine stands in a busy crowd, while “Hand Model” shows bright red nail polish on an aging woman’s hand.
The Emmy Award-winning filmmaker is known to blend the real and the imagined and has star power from Hollywood, having worked on projects with Gary Oldman and Rooney Mara. It’s one more reason to pick up her first book, called Silverlake Drive, which is a 10-year survey of her best works.
Now that’s something to ask for Valentine’s Day.
