Girls, a stunning 59.6 carat pink diamond – “Pink Star” – just sold for $71.2 million at a Sotheby’s auction today in Hong Kong, setting a new world record for any diamond or piece of jewellery, according to the auction house (Nope not to us, unfortunately).
The flawless diamond smashed the $60 million pre-sale estimate set by Sotheby’s.
The piece has already an auction history and was sold three years ago at an even higher price when being auctioneered at Sotheby’s Geneva but the deal apparently later fell apart after the buyer defaulted.
Sotheby’s says the buyer is Hong Kong jewellery company Chow Tai Fook , which beat out two other telephone bidders.
Hope you are not too sad this one is gone and probably won`t stick on your finger.
