The Art News You Missed While You Stepped Out Of The Gallery
We won’t let you miss out on the art world 411
News 02 Oct 2020

Hey gallery guys and girls, how’s your week been? We’re sure it’s been pretty hectic. As many of us are now back in the gallery – or the e-gallery as it may be – art fairs, exhibitions and networking have returned to some kind of normal. So, while you’ve been rushed off your feet, we’ll forgive you if you haven’t been able to stay up to date with all the art news that took place this week. Here’s a rundown of everything you missed!

David Zwirner To Launch Manhattan Space With All-Black Staff

We love to see the art world reacting to societal shifts. David Zwirner has just appointed gallerist Ebony L. Haynes to direct a new gallery in Manhattan. The exhibition-focused space will have an all-Black staff, including PAID internships for black students. We can’t wait to see what they exhibit!

Cindy Sherman Exhibits Series Of Male Inspired Characters

Cindy Sherman is famous for channelling many characters and personas, but have you noticed that they are predominantly female? In a new show at Metro Pictures in New York, Sherman focuses on androgynous figures, including 10 images portraying male characters dressed in menswear collections by Stella McCartney. You can read all about it via ArtNet. The works are on show until October 31.

Helmut Lang Makes Artwork Out Of Saint Laurent Pieces

We love a good art X fashion collab. Helmut Lang x Anthony Vaccarello (Creative Director of Saint Laurent) for Saint Laurent Rive Droite is a collection of works comprising shredded pieces of unwanted items donated by Saint Laurent. The works will be on show at Saint Laurent’s Rive Droite store in Paris, before showing in Los Angeles.

Artist Fabrizio Plessi Creates Installation With Dior In Venice

Dior has teamed up with artist Fabrizio Plessi to unveil an artwork that inspires hope in Venice’s Piazza San Marco. The work that shines gold all around the heart of Venice will be on view until November 15.

Rihanna Releases Menswear

Everyone loves RiRi and when she branched into fashion, we loved her even more. Now, guys can get a piece of the action. Rihanna and Savage x Fenty are launching their first mens loungewear and underwear collection this fall. Modelled by Christian Combs, it drops on October 2.

Kanye Shoots Kim For AnOther

And the photos are actually pretty good. In the latest issue of AnOther Magazine, Kanye West shot his wife Kim Kardashian in a shoot that also features snaps of Michele Lamy taken by Rick Owens. Kim and Michele both wear their own clothes and are accompanied by a transcript of the two in conversation with one another.

Sotheby’s To Sell Rare Botticelli

Sotheby’s is hoping to get big bucks when they sell Botticelli’s Young Man Holding A Roundel in January. The Old Master painting is speculated to fetch $80 million when it goes under the hammer.
