TikTok – the great new place for work advice!
There is a growing surge of TikTok entrepreneurs delivering fun and accessible business tips.
Art x Tech 30 Nov 2021

TikTok is not only a platform where you can learn the latest dance crazes. It can also be a place where you can learn how to deal with a difficult email – who knew!?

In fact, there is a growing surge of TikTok entrepreneurs turning to the popular mobile app to deliver fun and accessible business tips.

Since the platform can also function as a powerful and cost-effective marketing tool for small business owners and entrepreneurs, many TikTokers are eager to maintain a strong following by providing bite-sized business tips to their audiences.

Misa Narrates, a 24-year-old TikToker from the United States, is one influencer who has been using her platform to help people deal with their queries on how to handle conflict in the workplace.

There is nothing worse, than receiving a feisty email in the workplace from a hot-headed colleague who is not impressed. Whether you are actually in the wrong or something was lost in translation, it can be difficult to know how to respond in the moment.  There is a real art to writing emails, particularly the ones that take on hostility in the office. You have to strike that balance between maintaining professionalism, while simultaneously telling a colleague to chill their beans. My boss like to call these types of emails – ‘the dragon – bunny’.

The difficulty with text-based correspondence is, of course, that it can be difficult to gauge tone and there are only so many exclamation points you can add to an email, before appearing insane.

A follower asked Misa Narrates how to call out a colleague for being a “stinking liar” in the most professional way possible, and Misa replied:

@misanarrates

#stitch with @beafierce when it comes to an email response that perfectly says “f u”, count me in!

“While I acknowledge your recollection of events, unfortunately, what happened slightly differs. Moreso it’s unfortunate that we have to have this exchange via email by virtue of the fact that it disenfranchises both of us by way of veering away from the realities of that particular situation. I do hope however that we can find resolve. In the meantime, I await your feedback.”

This particular TikTok which has gained over 1.2 million views and 260,000 likes, truly hits all the points in a professional manner. It acknowledges her colleague’s experience while stating that it isn’t entirely true.

Creating a good reply to a passive-aggressive email is something many have experienced, which is apparent in the comments section of this particular TikTok video.

One TikTok user replied : ‘Saving and memorising this’.
