Between openings, galas, dinners and art fair afterparties, going out is a crucial part of the job in the art world. Maybe this is a good thing; at least we’re forced to socialize instead of sitting at home, holed up in our tiny apartments binge-watching old episodes of Gallery Girls. Then again, the art world social life isn’t always such a gift, my liver would add.
Whether you’re an intern or a seasoned veteran, you know that an arty night out can take a toll, body and soul. Maybe we’re all secretly trying to make up for being the weird kid in high school who didn’t get invited to all the football player/cheerleader parties, but art world folks go hard.
Like porn, a typical arty night out is hard to define, but we all know it when we see it. Still, never ones to shrink back from a challenge, we decided to break it down for you. With a little help from our friends, of course. And by friends I mean memes.
