Let’s face it, when we told our parents we were going into art, we all watched as their hearts shattered into a million pieces, realising that their hopes of us becoming doctors and lawyers were never going to happen. And after coming to terms with their babies spending their lives working with art and artists, they still have many questions. Here’s the reality of what they think about our career goals:
How do they even pay rent?
Sometimes they’re not even sure how you make money.

That’s art?
They’ve asked you this a thousand times.

Did you meet anyone nice?
This and when are you giving me grand-children, do the artists you represent count?

Did you make any friends at the fair?
You made a critic hate you, does that count…?

Be careful about the fumes…
That one installation you’re making with resin that they keep worrying about.

Isn’t that pricey?
They ask you as you explain you spent over 50 dollars on some materials or when you tell them a price of painting sold at auction.

That sounds like fun…
That disconnected I have no idea what you are talking about when you tell them about your latest shenanigans at an art gallery opening.

Are you doing drugs?
Don’t accept anything from strangers they still tell you.
