All hail @drugowl. Forget everything you know about art world memes, @drugowl is going to be the next viral sensation with Old Masters and classical art memes, a growing trend among the arty Instagram crowd.
Drugowl is a museum curator who is doing this account on the down low, and according to Vulture, they want to keep the mystery going (while obviously not risking their job).
Fair enough. We love the use of Caravaggios, Boteros and Albrecht Dürer paintings emblazoned with sexy one-liners.
“I love art history and I love painting,” says @drugowl. “I thought, Why not give art history some captions about sex, lies, love, and insecurity? Museums and public spaces should be occupied for the enjoyment of its people, we are the people.”
