New York was most certainly party central last week. From New York Fashion Week, to golden toilets, and Instagram worthy shots of a Gucci flagship store on 5th Avenue, I feel like I’ve missed out big time! Although other news worthy events do happen outside the Big Apple such as Yoko Ono searching for “harmed” women for her next art installation scheduled to be displayed at Reykjavik Art Museum later this year.

#1 GucciGhost Tags Facade of Gucci Store In NY Making It The Next Instagram Sensation
Italian fashion house Gucci recently teamed up with graffiti artist Trouble Andrew (aka GucciGhost) to tag its facade of Gucci’s fifth avenue store in New York. For those in town, expect a whimsical cartoonish display of skulls, stars, diamonds, eggs imagined as flying saucers around the building. It’s dubbed as the next “big instagram opp”! Get your shots while you can!
#2 Maurizio Cattelan’s Gold Toilet: A Throne For Your Tush
You better sit down for this one. A solid 18 gold carat toilet created by art-joker Maurizio Cattelan was launched at the Guggenheim Museum in New York last week. This art installation is a fully functional toilet, located in a standard bathroom in the museum and is open to all visitors to use and flush.
#3 Garden of Kusama at Philip Johnson’s Glass House
Our beloved Japanese octogenarian, Yayoi Kusama has reimagined her Narcissus Garden, previously exhibited at the 33rd Venice Biennale featuring 1500 mirrored plastic balls, for Philip Johnson’s iconic Glass House. The Connecticut 49-acre estate will see Kusama’s 1300 steel spheres floating in its pond, like a reflective dream. Such a scenery provides an ideal stage for fall’s reflective fashion with the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Saint Laurent.
#4 Ever Been Harmed For Being A Woman? Yoko Ono Wants You For Next Art Installation
Multimedia artist, Yoko Ono is searching for women with personal “testaments of harm”, including recollections of discrimination and trauma for her new art installation titled “Arising”. These collected stories will be subsequently showcased at the Reykjavik Art Museum later this year.
#5 Whoopi Goldberg To Curate Marilyn Monroe-Themed Show
Whoopi Goldberg has been invited to curate a show for Mana Contemporary regarding the hidden side of the iconic star Marilyn Monroe, for the gallery’s upcoming show “Marilyn: Character Not Image”. It will attempt to reveal the sensitive and ambitious side to this legendary woman, going beyond the glam and fame. Opening on September 25, the capsule exhibition will reveal Monroe’s poems, drawings, photography by Weegee, and of course, her iconic dress.
#6 Claire Danes And The Artworld Celebrate Art21’s Latest Series
The party never ends in the city that never sleep. Celebs and art world folks with the likes of actress Claire Danes and other art world luminaries gathered to celebrate the launch of the visual arts-centered TV series “Art in the Twenty-First Century” on September 14. The acclaimed series previously invited major art figures to be featured such as Agnes Gund, as well as artists Edgar Arcenaux and Barbara Kasten.
