Why You Need A Work Wife
That special someone to back you up at work
Career 03 Jan 2023

Thelma and Louise, Monica and Rachel, Serena and Blair, the world would be a difficult place if it weren’t for our female partners in crime. But what about at work? Do you have a favourite girlfriend who you call when you’re having a tough day, or who you can sneak off with to gossip over a coffee? There are many benefits to having a pal in the office, so here’s a list of why you need a work wife.

You Can Support Each Other’s Big Ideas

When giving a big presentation or proposing something new, your work wife will be the first to champion you no matter what, and a little boost can go a big way in the confidence game.

You’ll Have Someone To Vent To

Having a bad day? Need someone who really understands your working environment, but who won’t tell the boss if you speak out of turn behind their back? Your work wife will be there to listen and then tell you everything will be OK.

You Can Cover For Each Other

Had a few too many at the art party, then went out to an after party, and then maybe another and woken up feeling like you just fell out of a plane? (Don’t worry, we’ve all done it at least once). Your work wife will be able to vouch for you when you “call in sick”, and she’ll have your back when you are finally feeling human again.

They Can Help When You’ve Got A Problem

Things at work don’t always run smoothly, problems are going to arise from time to time no matter what. But when you do have issues, your work wife will be right there to help out. As corny as it sounds, a problem shared is a problem halved.

They’re Just As Weird As You

Of course it’s great to have a work wife for support, but the relationship goes a long way when you have someone you can joke with, and who gets you. (Especially when the rest of the office is boring)

They’re The Yin To Your Yan

It just so happens that opposites often attract. This can also be true in working relationships too, and in this case it can be extra beneficial. You’re good at one thing, and she’s good at that other task you hate, amazing! Working as a team means that you can put your different strengths together to form an unstoppable power duo.
