The famed German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans opened a survey exhibition this weekend in the city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, where Over 200 works are on view from 1986 to 2017. The show is an attempt to show fragility as strength—not a weakness, as the show is so aptly called “Fragile.” It’s also the title of a short film Tillmans made in 2016, which stars transgender model Hari Nef, who known for working with Gucci for their Bloom fragrance. Wiry figures dance in monochromatic backgrounds, which looks like a metaphor for the photographer’s ever-changing landscape, as we see here–from waterfalls to oceans and deer encounters, it’s all a dream.
