As part of the opening of the Amox Rex contemporary art museum in Helsinki on August 30, the Japanese digital art collective teamLab, who are at the forefront of the ‘digital museum’ trend, will wash the space in interactive projections as part of the museum’s first exhibition.

The art collective, which is a team of over 500 artists, programmers, CG animators, architects, graphic designers and writers, have a goal of “reconfiguring reality” through their work.
They also opened their own museum in Japan recently and want to see how humans react in the digital era with algorithm-based interactive art.

“Before people started accepting digital technology, information and artistic expression had to be presented in some physical form,” teamLab explains.

“Creative expression has existed through static media for most of human history, often using physical objects such as canvas and paint. The advent of digital technology allows human expression to become free from these physical constraints, enabling it to exist independently and evolve freely.”
