On March 2, an exhibition devoted to the king of avant-garde pop opens at the Brooklyn Museum. David Bowie Is traces the star’s rise to fame from London to Los Angeles and New York with over 300 items from the David Bowie Archive, including handwritten lyrics, news clippings, photographs and endless mannequins donning original Bowie costumes—so much, that you might feel like you’re inside of a huge walk-in closet. The exhibition includes the iconic Ziggy Stardust jumpsuit by Freddie Burretti, Kansai Yamamoto’s striped bodysuit from the Aladdin Sane tour from 1973 and the Alexander McQueen Union Jack coat from the cover of Earthling. While the show is heavy on style, retracing the career of a legend, there are also set designs, live footage, the album artwork and of course, musical instruments.
