Fashion Week is still on – and seems never-ending compared to a compact 5 days Art Basel schedule – and Dior’s recent show was all about paying homage to the female art movement of the 60’s – especially Niki de Saint Phalle.
Picking up where the opening look left off, #MariaGraziaChiuri softens the graphic stripe motif running through the Spring-Summer 2018 show into an airy dress as the conscience-raising slogan gives way to an embroidered reinterpretation of Niki de Saint Phalle’s art. #DiorSS18 #PFW

The catwalk was staged inside the Musée Rodin with mirrior fragments plastered all over the walls – resembling de Saint Phalle’s eccentric home in Tuscany.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand’s artistic director, who landed her first branding coup with her last seasons “Why should we all be feminists” slogan, kept on celebrating the female empowerment. In this context, Linda Nochlin’s essay ‘Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?”, published in 1971, even served as inspiration for a statement shirt and was also distributed as hardcopy to the audience. What a special treat to read on gender inequality while consuming the latest haute couture.
Reflecting the wide range of creative processes behind Niki de Saint Phalle’s work, this full skirt in an artisanal patchwork of colorful imagery and lettering exemplifies #MariaGraziaChiuri’s fascination with the multifaceted artist in her just-shown Spring-Summer 2018 collection! #DiorSS18 #PFW
