Sanford Biggers has made a handcrafted rug with Henzel Studio, which will be included in Design For Good, an auction by Elle Decor in partnership with Christie’s New York.
Biggers’s rug, titled Ibeji (Duet), was produced in 2019 and is a hand knotted, Persian weave made of wool and silk. “The rug features twin carved figures from Yoruba culture that are thought to possess spiritual powers”, says Biggers, who was given carte blanche by Henzel to disregard all design principles and rules when creating his beautiful piece of art.
Proceeds of the sale of the rug in the Christie’s sale will benefit Housing Works, a New York City based non-profit fighting the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness.
