With gallery shows, venue closures  and companies shutting down for the foreseeable future, the arts industry needs to find a way to move forward and find a way to pay the bills.  This may feel impossible from the confinements on your own home but it is possible! Find out the things you can do to earn some money during quarantining.

Skill-swap with your community
Skillshare is  a great website where you can help others explore new skills, deepen existing passions and get lost in creativity.  By teaching on Skillshare, you can also grow your online following, give back, and earn money. On Skillshare website site it quotes that top earning teachers make $100,000 + each year. Facebook communities are also springing up to tackle the devastation head-on. Arts Tasker, is one of many networking site for artists wanting to use their enforced downtime to develop their work with each other’s help.

Create how-to videos
Create a YouTube account or broadcast via Instagram to show the behind the scenes of your work process. You can then sell the end result of what you have created to your new fans. It may not be an immediate income generator, but it will help build up a wider audience and subscribers for when you are back in action.

Freelance Writer
If you’re an genius with words and have an expert eye for grammar, then freelance writing will let you start earning to bring in a healthy salary during this time.


Sell gift vouchers
Alongside selling your products on your site also sell vouchers which people can buy as a gift for their friends.

Polish up your tech skills
By working on your tech skills you can then browse job sites looking for work that can be done from the comfort of your home on your computer. From UX, to social media management, the possibilities are endless.

Sell your unwanted items
Create an ebay or depop account to start selling those unwanted items you have found during one of your big cleans during your time at home. If the item is higher value and has a strong provenance then send a picture and description to an auction house. Most auction houses will value your items for free. You never know, you may have some treasures hiding within your home.

Become a chat bot 
Become the person behind the “Hi, is there anything I can help you with today?” box that sometimes pops up on websites. Live chat services jobs are often advertised on sites such as indeed.co.uk, with brands such as Silkfred offering this role based from home.

Become a translator
Know another language? Then use it to make some more money! You can translate audios recordings, documents, videos … the list goes on – all from the comfort of your own home.

Try some online surveys
Complete paid surveys to earn money online! Businesses pay for your opinions to help them refine their products and marketing materials

Virtual Assistant
Perform remote tasks for a number of industries, from booking travel to managing a calendar. Some jobs can last for a day, others can last for months. Search ‘virtual assistant’ on job sites and you’ll gain a better understanding of the broad requirements.
