Emerging artists with little sales and exhibition experience often struggle to find gallery doors that will open for them. It’s not easy breaking into the art business after all, especially when you throw in a pandemic – cheers 2020! More and more artists however who are unable to find a gallery to represent them are thinking about alternative ways to sell their work, especially in today’s climate.

Here are 8 ways you can sell your work and survive 2020 without a gallery on your own!

Create your own online marketplace

Regardless of whether you’re selling work with a gallery or elsewhere it’s essential to have your own website too to make extra money and look professional. Social media aside, there’s no better place to connect directly with buyers and admirers of your work than your very own website. Today it’s simple and not expensive to set up a website of your own to showcase your art and sell it directly from your site to your customers. A large online presence means your name is being buzzed about, undercutting the need for galleries to spread the word about you.

Saatchi Art

Sell your art to a community of art lovers with Saatchi Art. The account is free to set-up and you can choose how you are paid, with options as simple as PayPal. You will receive 65% of your sales. The commission Saatchi Art takes is reinvested into giving you as much exposure as possible.

Guess what? The social media boom means artists no longer have to rely solely on galleries and the art world elite to validate their success. Instead, the masses following your social media accounts are proof enough. There’s no avoiding it – if you want to sell art online it’s a whole lot easier if you employ the tools of social media to connect and engage with people who’ll buy your work. Ensure you post high-quality images of your work, keep branding on the brain, keep the content creative and connect with your clients and you will sell your work faster than the paint will dry!
