The king of pop is the inspiration for a new exhibition on at the National Portrait Gallery in London called “Michael Jackson: On the Wall,” a spin-off from the artist’s ‘Off the Wall’ album.
As if he wasn’t big enough, the exhibition traces Jackson’s influence on pop culture, including artwork portraits of him by
KAWS (from an illustration from Interview Magazine in the 1990s) to
Catherine Opie (a shot of Jackson memorabilia in an intimate setting) and
David LaChapelle (who shot the artist in epic scenarios, as usual – remember when he shot Jackson as Jesus?).
Expect to see over 50 different artists on Jackson’s influence, including Keith Haring and Kehinde Wiley. IT truly keeps Jackson’s influence is alive and well.
