Sotheby’s Auctions First Ever NFT
Across London, New York and Hong Kong, Sotheby’s is hosting it’s Natively Digital sale through a partnership with Samsung, a curated auction of non-fungible works that are also on display in the metaverse. Amongst the lots is Quantum by Kevin McCoy, the first work ever to be associated with a certificate of ownership like those that accompany an NFT in May 2014, three whole years before NFT’s even became a thing. It is widely considered to be the first ever non-fungible and we’re sure it’s going to be a big hit. The auction runs until June 10.
Marilyn Monroe Gets The NFT Treatment
Blockchain platform Ethernity and the Marilyn Monroe estate recently came together to launch a collection of art based on the icon in honour of what would have been her 95th birthday. The works were up for grabs for just 72 hours, with the NFTs reminding us that Marilyn will never go out of style. In fact she will continue to endure forever thanks to the technology behind non-fungible tokens.
Sotheby’s Open Decentraland Gallery
Sotheby’s is big on the NFT news this week! A replica of the auction house’s London Galleries can be found in the Voltaire Art District (52,83) of Decentraland, a decentralised virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain. While it seems like a version of the Sims made for art-obsessed adults, we must admit that it looks pretty cool. Plus, you’ll be able to view the Natively Digital NFT sale in a whole digital world!
Lindsay Lohan, NFT Specialist?
Well, apparently that might be so! In an article for Interview Magazine a certain Ms Lohan tells us how to make serious bank through the NFT game. It seems LiLo knows a thing or two about NFTs, having sold her single Lullaby in non-fungible format for a whopping $85,000! In the Interview article Lohan explains everything from Metamask to Rarible and actually provides a pretty good step-by-step guide to minting your own NFT.
NFT Auction And Fundraiser Commemorates Juneteenth
Art has always been used as a method of activism, so why not NFTs too? Artist Diana Sinclair has curated The Digital Diaspora, a public installation and NFT fundraiser in NYC that marks Juneteenth. The event will launch on June 19 at Superchief Gallery and is in partnership with Towards Utopia, an anti-racist, trans-feminist arts and education organisation. The auction will go live the same day on Foundation with proceeds benefiting GLITS and herstoryDAO.
