Staring out of the windows wistfully, asking yourself why are you stuck at your gallery desk instead of walking off into the sunset? Girl, we feel you. But, while you were waiting for your special moment to arrive, the art world kept moving, and we’ve got you covered with a run-down with all the art goss from this past week.
The Louvre Now Offers Luxury Cruises
That’s right, soon you will able to go on a cruise ship with the Louvre around the Adriatic and the Persian Gulf. Itineraries have been designed by French cruise line company Ponant and sailings will begin next month. The first tour will be $4,000 and is set to include stops in Athens and Croatia.
Tate Declares Climate Emergency
The Tate in London has promised to re-evaluate its practices in acknowledgement of a climate emergency. The institution has pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by 10% in the next 5 years. A museum for the eco-age.
Frida Kahlo Launches Beauty Line
In honor of Frida Kahlo’s 112th birthday on 6th June, a new line of Frida Kahlo beauty products were unveiled by Ulta. The range includes lipglosses and eyeshadows, but has come under fire as Kahlo’s iconic unibrow appears to have been airbrushed out of the packaging.
Virgil Abloh Gets Inspired By Renaissance In MCA Chicago Collab
In conjunction with his Figures of Speech exhibition at the MCA in Chicago, Virgil Abloh has released a t-shirt inspired by his inaugural clothing line PYREX, which features a renaissance painting and his logo.
KAWS Unveil Bag Capsule Collection With Herschel
As we previously reported, KAWS’s HOLIDAY sculpture is rocking up in Japan at Mount Fuji this summer. It has now been announced that KAWS has teamed up with Herschel Supply and AllRightsReserved to offer a limited-edition capsule of Heritage backpacks and tote bags, which are exclusive to the camping experience. I guess we have to book a flight to Japan…
London Fashion Week Offers Tickets To The Public
Runway shows normally only grant access to fashion royalty. But if you’re based in London, you will now be able to buy tickets to the frow as the British Fashion Council aims to open access to everyone from this September. Tickets start from £135 (around $168), with a seat on the frow setting you back £245 ($304).
Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket Sells For $19,000
A golden ticket and chocolate bar from the original 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie sold at auction in England for $19,600. The items belonded to Julie Dawn Cole, who played the role of Veruca Salt.
Neil Armstrong Memorabilia Raises $2.4 million
In the run-up to the fiftieth anniversary of the moon landing this weekend, an auction of Neil Armstrong ephemera in Dallas has raised over $2 million. Items sold include the astronaut’s flight plan, his flight suit and a gold medal.
