In a new collaboration with CIRCA, British artist David Hockney is screening a video titled Remember you cannot look at the sun or death for very long on billboards in London, New York, LA, Seoul and Tokyo. And, if you can’t get to those cities, the film will also be shown online at CIRCA.ART every evening too.
The film comprises an animated sunrise to represent hope and collaboration as much of the world starts to wake up from lockdown. The creation was made on Hockney’s iPad in Normandy, France and coincides with the release of his new book Spring Cannot Be Cancelled, as well as his new exhibition at London’s Royal Academy of Arts which opens May 23.
“The world is very very beautiful, but most people don’t look very much, do they? They scan the ground in front of them so they can walk but they don’t really look at things incredibly well with intensity”, says Hockney via Circa’s IG feed, “What’s the good news then? Well, the arrival of spring!” We couldn’t agree more and we love this initiative.
The new video will be shown every evening throughout the month of May at the following times and locations:
London: Piccadilly Lights, at 20:21BST
New York: Times Square, at 23:57EST
Los Angeles: Pendry West Hollywood, at 20:21PST
Seoul: Coex K-POP Square, at 20:21KST
Tokyo: Yunika Vision, Shinjuku, at 09:00JST
Online via CIRCA.ART every evening, at 20:21BST
