Of all places, right? The gallerists turned hoteliers have actually just opened their first hotel, and they’ve called it the Fife Arms.
Created by Iwan and Manuela Wirth, the Swiss art dealers have had a home in the Scottish highlands all along. The powerhouse behind Hauser & Wirth wanted to make their stamp, so opened the Fife Arms, which boasts Victorian suites that give it a 19th century vibe. It’s decorated with antique furnishings, period wallpaper and original artwork (of course) while offering stunning views of the Braemar.
They even have a series of executive suites called Nature & Poetry rooms, which features artwork made from natural materials, from tweed to heather and wood. The plaid walls are made by designer Araminta Campbell and this one wall shows a painting called Lifting VII by Stéphanie Vandem.
“We wanted an unpretentious, almost shabby elegance,” says Iwan, “but then for guests to perceive these interventions that put you very much in the 21st century.”
