Sometimes it all just gets a bit too much and even getting out of bed is difficult. What little motivation we had left this year is slowly fading away yet somehow our bosses expect us to deliver the goods. How do we stay motivated when it feels like the world is upside down and there really isn’t much point? Remarkably, there are a few simple things you can switch up to help you get out of bed. So, here are our tips for boosting your work motivation while we’d all rather sleep till spring.
Dress For Work
It’s all too easy to stay in our pyjamas all day. If you’re lucky enough to actually go to an office or gallery, you’re more likely to be wearing comfy clothes to comfort you during these strange times, but did you actually think about trying on clothes that will make you feel like a boss? Getting dressed up can really enhance our mood and our perception of ourselves. Go all out!
Create A Work Space
Many people work here, there and everywhere. Some even spend all day working from the sofa or in bed, but please, don’t! Routine is so important for our mental wellbeing. It’s also a good idea to separate work from relaxation. That way, our minds don’t get confused. Create a dedicated work space, you’ll feel so much better for it.
Set Work Hours, And Stick To Them!
During this weird time it’s all too easy to forget that we once had set working hours. While sleeping in and working late may sound appealing, not sticking to a regular schedule isn’t great for our bodies (or our minds). Try to get into a routine, it will help you stay motivated.
Find Things To Look Forward To
It’s difficult to make plans right now, but life won’t be like this forever. There are always things to look forward to, even if that’s cooking your favourite meal for dinner. Planning little things to be excited for will make all the difference. Girl, you deserve it!
Check In With Colleagues
I know we’re all tired of Zoom calls but a little bit of human interaction, even if it’s digital, really works wonders. Plus, it’s the perfect opportunity to gossip about your co-workers 😉
Reward Yourself
This sounds a bit bizarre right? But actually it’s not. Why not set yourself the target of accomplishing something within a set number of hours, then reward yourself by checking Instagram, watching an episode of your favourite series, taking the time to read a magazine or eating a cookie. These small little perks will make all the difference. It’s the little things, right?
Have A Side Project
Ok, so we get that this sounds counter-intuitive, work on something else to keep motivated at work? Surely that’s a mistake? Well…think about it! We can’t work all the time. Having something else to do on the side will really keep you grounded. It could be a new business, a blog or even something completely different like an arts and crafts project.
