Yas, the museum world can appreciate a fashion designer’s take on Americana–at least at the American Folk Art Museum.
He may have made knitwear with Looney Tunes characters, but it appears that Simons will be honored at the museum’s annual gala on October 2 for his contribution to fashion, craft, fabric, material art and for keeping the traditional art of craft alive and well.
“Raf Simons is one of the world’s most influential designers,” said Monty Blanchard, president of the board of trustees at AFAM. “His focus on American quilts shines a light on a potent art form that the American Folk Art Museum has long collected, exhibited and championed.”
