This Pop-Up Museum Brings a Glowing Moon to These Cities

Photo by Carl Milner in LeedsThe artists Luke Jerram is bringing the moon (an inflatable sculpture) to cities across the world.
By using images from NASA, the artist is creating countless 23-foot replicas of the moon for a world tour that brings the sculpture to parks, rooftops and even indoor swimming pools.

While the “Museum of the Moon” has already toured urban spaces in China, Australia, the UK, each installation in the coming year will take place with a soundtrack by Dan Jones, a composer and sound artist.

“As it travels from place to place, it will gather new musical compositions and an ongoing collection of personal responses, stories and mythologies, as well as highlighting the latest moon science,” said Jerram.

The moon tours France until Sept. 30, then through the UK and the Essen Light Festival in Germany on Oct. 26. It then tours through Europe, the UK and America through March 2019.
