You may have noticed a certain latex-clad blonde figure popping up on your IG feeds or at top art world events. Super tall and always impeccably dressed – and always in rubber – Pandemonia has been a darling of art world best dressed lists for years. But who is she? Well my friends, we’re about to tell you!
She First Hit The Scene In 2009
Pandemonia first made an appearance amongst the London art crowd all the way back in 2009 and has been rocking latex masks and dresses ever since. The 7ft tall is basically an art world barbie, always in a headline worthy outfit, she often appears with her dog Snowy in tow.
Her Real Identity Is Anonymous
Pandemonia is the brains of an anonymous London artist who hides behind her latex mask. Even after a decade we have no idea who they are! One her website, Pandemonia explains: “I created Pandemonia from mass media imagery, then fed her back to the very same media. She is like a modern day Trojan Horse. On the surface she is the consumerist vision in person; forever young, tall and glossy etc. Under the veneer, the work promotes discourse; a dismantling of that same image. She is an allegory for living in the 21st century and operates in the social sphere. She is democratic because it is the public that made her. People vote for her with their camera phones. Her image has spread virally around the world.” And more than ten years later, the public still loves her.
She’s All About Celebrity
Initially gatecrashing events, Pandemonia has gone from wannabe to royalty, on the guest list of all the hottest events in art and fashion across the globe.
She’s An Artist Too
Pandemonia makes art across a variety of media, commenting on pop culture, myth and reality. She has exhibited in London, Belgium and Los Angeles.
She Designs Her Own Clothes
While Pandemonia is known as an art girl, her clothes certainly make a statement. But where does the 7ft glamazon get them from? Well, the answer is, she makes them herself! (And we’re all secretly hoping she’ll release her own line of clothes soon too!)
She’s A Hit On The Catwalk Too
You can’t deny Pandemonia’s statement style, and the fashion world has noticed too. In 2020 she walked in Jean Paul Gaultier’s last ever couture fashion show, stealing the spotlight from A-list models and celebrities alike, letting the fashion world know that art girls are not to be messed with!
