The designer, entrepreneur, and former Spice Girl has teamed up with Sotheby’s auction house yet again, this time for an exhibition of contemporary art at her Dover Street boutique in London. Running from February 6 to 10, the showcase features works from some of the most legendary names in modern art, including artworks by Yoshitomo Nara, George Condo, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, Yves Klein and Francis Bacon—a collector’s dream line-up.
This marks Beckham’s third curatorial collaboration with Sotheby’s, and while she’s now best known for her razor-sharp tailoring and impeccable design aesthetic, she’s also a dedicated art enthusiast. She commented on her Instagram – ‘For David and I, collecting is about more than just investing or acquiring beautiful objects. It’s about finding pieces that bring us real joy. The more I delve into art history and progress on my journey as a collector, the more captivated I am by it.’ As she shared with Cultured, her collecting habits have been shaped by personal instincts, as well as a certain music icon—Sir Elton John—who has played a key role in her artistic education.
Her latest curation alongside the help of Sotheby’s specialists highlights 11 bold, thought-provoking, and visually striking pieces—a seamless extension of the sharp, structured elegance her fashion brand is known for. “I’ve always wanted my store to be about more than just retail,” she told Cultured. “In fact, I chose it because the space reminded me of a gallery.” This vision has made her flagship on 36 Dover Street the perfect backdrop for the curated selection, allowing visitors to experience the works in an intimate, immersive setting. The exhibit is free to visit before the artworks hit Sotheby’s Contemporary auctions where they’ll no doubt fetch jaw-dropping sums.
